YEAR BY YEAR
1996...
CLUBLIFE:
a very active year!
- 78 activities in Belgium
(an all time record), 23 foreign caves
- a video amateur, Rik,
joins the club.
BELGIUM
-
We visit at least 20 classic caves.
- But our biggest occupation
is the exploration and survey of the Grotte des Emotions.
We discover another 500 m. (the caves now measures 1800m), but
lot a lot of fuzz and paperwork with the landowner, Walloon
government and the city, spoil our pleasure quite a
bit.
- We continue for many a
weekend in the Weron-Dellieux System, and in the Trou de l'Eglise
(The Great Escape ... do you recall?).
- We continue in the dig
that we began in 1989 in the "Abime de la Chawresse"
and quickly find the way on: 150m of new passage, called
"Réseau des Anversois" .
- In the Dellieux,
Annette and me (=Paul) climb out a 31 metres high aven. It
is probably the biggest artifical climb ever made in the
country.
FOREIGN
CAVES
- Some caving in the French
Meuse, 10-days in the H?ault (with "Pas de Madame"
cave, a tough one) and a week of "potholing" in
Yorkshire, U.K.
- Summer holiday in Spain
(Cantabria) where we make the 800m deep Sima Cueta to Coventosa
through-trip. It is a splendid trip, that we do in a record
speed since the cave is in flood and we want to get out as fast
as we can. We also do some other through-trips, and visit
the Torca del Carlista, featuring one of the world's biggest
underground rooms (500m. x 150 m.)
OTHER
HIGHLIGHTS
- Herman Jorens builds
(following John Hey's design) a caveradio which allows us
speech-communication through hundreds of metres of pure
rock.
