SpeleoBase - WHAT'S NEW? ========================== 3.1.4 20/6/2018 * Cave table: the number of selected lines is now shown * Export to Google Earth: possibility to include yes or no the links to image files Improved the html-code in the KML file so that Google Earth will have less trouble to display images. * Print caves: reworked the print-out of a cave in detail: if fields are empty, the header lines will not be printed anymore, which saves place and paper. * Print Caves: printing a lot of caves with a lot of (big) images resulted in a "memory low" error. Now, all images are first reduced to small ones in a temporary folder. The report will use those small images which virtually excludes the memory low problem. * Cave table: the fields CAINVNR en CAOLDNR2 are now also shown. * Exporting caves to Karto has been replaced by an export to a textfile in which all coordinates have bene converted to "Lambert 1972 Belgie" * Exporting caves: there is now a checkbox to have all the linked files of the exported caves copied to subfolders (naming EXPORTED_IMAGES/DOCS/TOPOS) in the folder of the chosen exportdestination (only in case of an export to "real" Speleobase files). * In "Detail Cave", in the Images tab, the "show thumbnails" checkbox is now checked by default. * In "Detail Image" Window, the size of the image is now shown in pixels. * Fixed bug in the listboxes with country/perspective/Type of Entrances listboxes: they were still showing deleted codes. * Fixed bug that resulted in removing of spaces when copy/pasting between fields. 3.0.0 10/02/2015 * In the cave table, it is now possible to group on certain columns. 2.9.4 17/7/2012 * Improved export to GPX * fixed a crash issue that could occur when entering caves under Windows7 * Integrated a new version of Eric Sibert's coordinate convertor (more coordinate systems supported). Warning: the old CONVCOORD.TXT file is no longer compatible and it it will replaced. If you have made changes to it, then you must save your CONVCOORD.TXT file before installing Speleobase 2.9.4. And after installing it, you wil have to merge your changes with the new file. 2.9.2 7/6/2011 * Export to GPX format is now possible. GPX is a xml file that is becoming the standard for exchanging data with a GPS device. * All windows have been reworked so that they can be reduced to a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, which is commonly used on small 10 inch "Netbook" computers. * Fixed a memoryleak issue that made SpeleoBase freeze or crash when you had intensively and consecutively used the Cave Detail Window. * Using the built-in PDF printer is no longer supported when using Windows Vista or Windows 7. This is due to licencing restrictions of the Amyuni PDF driver that is used by the SpeleoBase Reporting tool. As a result all PDF-options will be greyed out under Vista or W7. 2.9.0 2/2/2010 ================================== * Manage links - NEW: this is a new module which allows you to view, repair or modify all image, document or survey links without the need to go into each cave record individually. Very useful if you want to move images to other folders, without invalidating the links. * Export to Google Earth KML format: - NEW: The description of the cave is now in HTML which allows for formatting (bold, underline). This description now contains more fields than before, but some fields will be skipped when they don't contain data, to save space in Google earth. - NEW: When there are Image Links, they will be exported as well. This way, Google earth will show your images! For caves with image links, the Placemark name will be prefixed with a "#" sign in Google earth. After the Placemark name, the exploration status will be shown between square brackets e.g. [/] * Cave Table - NEW: show 3 extra fields: Map, Entry date, Modification date * Text Import Wizard: - FIX: when the option "ignore first line" was checked, only one out of two lines was processed. - FIX: a CSV file with quotes around the strings is now correctly processed - CHANGE: will now read 50000 instead of 5000 characters per line - CHANGE: introduced a trick to keep linebreaks in long text fields. Use the $$ string (see Help manual). * General: - A lot of bugfixes everywhere v2.8.5 17/12/2008 ================= - Exporting to Google Earth now creates a KML file instead of a TXT file. This makes showing your caves in Google Earth a piece of cake! - Cave Table: Fixed bug that caused tooltips to be truncated at 80 chars in Windows Vista - Fixed a few translation errors in the reports - Detail Cave, Image preview, scanning an image: there was a bug which prevented saving the image file after scanning it. - Detail Cave, Image preview: a new DLL is being used, which unfortunately no longer supports the Photoshop "PSD" format - Detail Cave, Image Preview: there is now a new button "Info" that opens a window with the most important EXIF tags of the image. Works only with file formats that contain metadata, such as JPEG. v2.8.4 5/5/2008 ================ - A lot of visual improvements: all tables now have an XP-look. The menubar has been replaced by an "Outlook" style bar. Thanks goes to Fabrice Foray! - A lot of changes to allow a third language (Spanish). Except for the manual, the entire program and all reports now exist in Spanish! Thanks goes to Gustavo Quesada (Costa Rica). - A lot of small bugs have been fixed. - A lot of functions and routines have been improved. - Text Conversion Wizard, Step 2: it is now easier to place the fields in the desired order (with arrowbuttons) - Detail Cave: the window dimensions have been expanded and some often used fields have been moved to the first tab page. - Detail Cave: added a button next to the coordinates thats will launch Google Maps in your Internet browser and show the position of the cave (needs Internet connection) - Detail Cave, Images: the thumbnail images can now been shown in different sizes. - Link to cave survey, images or documents: the fields "description" and "date" are no longer mandatory. - Link cave Image: when adding a new link to an image, one can now directly indicate that the image file must be copied to a pre-defined subdirectory. This is a fast and easy way to make sure that all of your images will be stored in one place. - Cave Table: a column "Author" has been added - Cave Table: less warning dialogs when deleting cave records. - Exporting/importing to SpeleoBase format: the 4 code files (Countries, Types of Entrances, Perspective codes and Coordinate system codes) are now also exported. When you import caves from a set of Speleobase export files, the codes that have been used in the caves of the imported caves, will now be created in your Speleobase environment! - The Help files have been converted to PDF format (French/English only) - Changed: when installing a "fresh" version of Speleobase, next two code-files will be empty: Types of Entrances and Perspective codes. It is up to the user to enter these two files with the desired codes! - Added in the Splash window, and About Window: a note to encourage users to make a small financial donation to the author of SpeleoBase, paul.de.bie@skynet.be. This can be done through Paypal. v2.7.1 14/2/2007 ================ - Exporting caves: you can now export to a (tab delimited) textfile that is compatible with Google Earth! Simply use File, Open in Google Earth to import the textfile with your cave locations. Remark: Google Earth Free does NOT allow import of text files. You need to buy Google Earth Plus (20 USD) that allows 100 locations to be imported per file. Remark2: In Google Earth File Open -> Encoding: Select the code page 1252 to have accents imported OK. - Autocomplete fields and boxes: these are the blue colored entry fields that "autocomplete" while you are typing in words that you have typed in before. Some bugs and improvements have been made here to make it more user friendly. Also, there is now a window in which you can perform maintenance of all those stored strings. Close the Cave Table and select the Maintenance Menu -> Maintenance Autotype strings. - USB: You can now install and run SpeleoBase from a USB Flash Drive! SpeleoBase has been made totally independent of the Windows directory. No INI files, no dll's etc. will be used from within Windows directories. So if you put SpeleoBase on a Flash drive, you can use the drive anywhere (any PC) and run SpeleoBase from there. Of course, USB Flash drives are less performant than hard drives, and you risk corrupting the data if you unplug the USB-key before you have closed SpeleoBase. So take care! - SpeleoBase will now move all of its datafiles to a seperate subfolder called "DBFFiles". This will be performed the first time you start version 2.7.1. In the past, the databases were mixed with the programs, which was not so nice after all. - Fixed a lot of small bugs. v2.7.0 01/12/2005 ================= - Filtering the Cave Table: This has changed radically. The 4 basic filter comboboxes have been moved to a new dialogwindow, the Filter Window. There, you can expand your basic filter with extra conditions. In the past you could only filter on one extra condition. Now, you can make a more complex filter condition based on several fields. Furthermore, you can now save your favourite filters and apply them by simply selecting them. A (simple) maintenance of such "saved filters" has been made where you can save, update or delete saved filters. - NEW: EXPORT TO CSV: you can now export the selected caves to a Comma Separated File. This way you can easily work with your cave data in other programs such as MS Excel. Note: the separator is the ";" sign, not the comma "," sign. Otherwise, problems arise with numbers using a comma as a decimal separator. - EXPORT to Karto and PCX5: Length, depth, status are added to the name/number of the cave. This makes it easier to manage the waypoints in Karto or your GPS-program - EXPORT to PCX (= Garmin Waypoint file): SpeleoBase can now take symbols from the Garmin symbol set that look more or less like the status symbols of the cave (optional). - EXPORT to PCX (= Garmin Waypoint file): some GPS programs do not allow special characters such as "/" in the waypointname. From now on, next characters will be replaced by the underscore symbol, when exporting: <>|"?/\:.&* - In the Document and Images tables and detail windows, you now see the ICON of the program that is asSociétéated with that particular type of file. - Cave Table: Extra filter: can now also be used on numerical fields, e.g. to see all caves longer than 999 m, or having coordinates bigger than 685.000 - Printing: it should now be possible to print directly to a PDF file (however I have noticed that this does not work on all computers. In that case, just install PDF creation software). - E-mailing: you now have the option to attach the print as a PDF file. This is by far the best looking way. But same remark as above. - A lot of small bugfixes everywhere v2.62 16/2/2005 =============== - Cave Detail, Documents links: you can now add a link to an Internet URL! And when using Windows 2000 or XP, you will automatically see all recently used Internet links as soon as you type in something in the edit control. v2.61 27/1/2005 ================== - Cave Table: All records can now also be selected by pressing Ctrl-A. Records can be deleted by pressing Ctrl-Del - Import Wizard: a) Step 3: the row height of the table which shows the caves to be imported has been fixed to 50 pixels (can be changed by user) - it was too high in the past b) Step 3: the number of selected caves was not updated when choosing the "Select All" button. Also all records can now also be selected by pressing Ctrl-A c) Step 4: solved a serious bug: since v 2.60; the image/docs/topo links were NOT imported anymore. - Corrected a few wrong translations (messages) in the routine that checks for file corruption - Cave Table: When applying an extra filter or when doing a search operation, one can now remove these filters by clicking on a small button that appears next to the filter/search buttons. - Cave Detail: all comboboxes dropped automatically when receiving focus. -> Changed: this behaviour will now only occur for the "smart" (autofilling) comboboxes; all normal comboboxes will no longer dropdown automatically. - Printing caves: A 4th printing form has been defined, the so-called "Compact Detail" print. On each A4 page, two caves will be printed with their main characteristics. v2.60 - 8/11/2004 ========================= Stability issues: ----------------- - Cave Table: The cave table will no longer crash SB, when you select a record that contains corrupted data. - Detail Cave: will now save a cave that contains one or more fields with corrupted data without crashing (but some data might be lost). - When launching SB, the Cave Table is not opened automatically anymore. This gives you the possibility to use the "Reindex" function in case you suspect index or data corruption. - When needed, a routine will now verify the files for data-corruption and fix this,if corruption is detected. This routine will be performed also when you choose the Reindex function. Security issues: ---------------- - The Save/Restore function has been entirely rewritten. It now offers the possibility to save up to 15 backup generations of SB files, and restore them selectively. - SB will even automatically make a backup for you, each time you close the program and SB sees that you have changed one or more cave records! More User friendly: -------------------- - Cave Detail: several fields have been replaced by comboboxes or edit controls that will REMEMBER all strings that you have ever typed in before and propose you these strings while typing! This will save you a lot of time in typing, and will allow for a more consistent way of entering data. You can compare it with Microsofts "Autotype" functionality, with the difference that here the suggested strings are related to the field in which they are entered. E.g. in a field "Author" SB will only propose you *authors* that you have entered before. The fields that have this "intelligent typing" possibility, are recognizeable because they have a BLUE font. They are: CaLocal,CaProvDep, CaArea, CaXYMethod, CaZMethod, CaMassif, CaMap, CaZone, CaAuthor, CaExplName and in the "links" windows, the "author" fields. - On top of this, when creating a new cave, SB will still propose you (for the above mentioned fields only) the values of the cave that you previously created. This allows for very fast and consistent entering of a series of similar caves. New in this version: you can now, if desired, turn off this feature in the "Setup" Window. - Image viewer: a button has been added "EDut with External program" which allows to open image with your favorite photo-editor (e.g. Photoshop). - Import Wizard: the former "View/edit an Importfile" and "Import a file" functions have been combined into 3-step "Import Wizard". It has become a lot easier to import caves this way! One can now import cavefiles that are in a "read-only" state, e.g. located an a CD-Rom. One can now make a SELECTION of which caves to import. In the past, all caves were imported. File structure Changes: ---------------------- - The field for the cave depth has been increased from 6 to 7 digits which now allows for entering cave depth deeper than 1000 m! Bugfixes: --------- - Cave Table, Extra Filter: did not work O.K., because of an upper/lowercase bug. Has been fixed. - Cave detail, Image/Topo and Docs links: since version 2.5, it was no longer possible to add a new link if there weren't already other links. Fixed now. - if the previous ending of SB was abnormal, SB was supposed to reindex the files at next program launch. This did not happen. Is now fixed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ v2.5.1 - 15/7/2004 ========================= This version fixes a small bug when importing caves. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ v2.5.0 - 4/6/2004 ========================= * The Setup program which was only in English before, will now be executed in the language you choose. * Compiled with Visual Objects 2.7a * Improvements in the resizing of several windows (proportional resizing of controls instead of lineair) * Imageviewer: - The Image Detail and Image Viewer window have been combined into one window. - Now with Twain Scanning support so you can scan images directly from within SpeleoBase - When selecting an image that has EXIF-info, SpeleoBase will use this info to set the date and author of the image. - This Window is now fully resizeable too. - Photoshop PSD image files are now supported too. * All File Open, File Save en Browse for Folder dialogwindows are now the new Microsoft versions that are resizeable and have extra functionality (e.g. Create folder button, drag & Drop etc...) * Cave Detail Window: in the Images, Documents and Survey tables, there is now a CONTEXT menu that you get when right-clicking the mouse. * Cave Table: here too a right-click context menu has been added. * Detail Report: this print-out will now show coordinates with 4 instead of 3 decimals. * Import-function: - Before you could only import an "SBCAVEMAIN.DBF", which had been produced with the SpeleoBase Export function. Now it has become possible to import from a copy of "CAVEMAIN.DBF" which is nothing else than the main data file of SpeleoBase. - A bug has been fixed which prevented the "replace cave" function to work correctly while importing +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ v2.4.6 - Feb 2004 ========================= * The Text Conversion Wizard has been rewritten entirely. It is now a true "Wizard" and the most significant improvement is the fact that you can always go back to the previous step in case you have made a mistake. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V2.4.4 - 23/1/2004 ========================= * This version offers "dynamic windows". In the previous version, all windows had fixed sizes (based on 800x600 resolution). Now, most windows are resizeable. Not only the window will resize, but also most controls sitting on them will resize and/or move (such as buttons, input fields, comboboxes etc..). So, you can now use SpeleoBase on bigger screen resolution, e.g. 1024x768, than it was originally designed for. * In most windows with "browsers" (= tables such as the main cave table, main- tenance windows for countrycodes, perspective codes etc...), all columns can be rearranged no as you wish. Their positions and column-widths will be remembered by SpeleoBase so you will always find your favourite "look". * There are now better looking menu-bars, with both icons and text labels. * Many minor bugs were fixed, making SpeleBase more stable than ever. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V2.4.1 - 4/3/2003 ========================= * Windows XP Themes support! All controls (buttons, checkboxes, scrollbars etc). will now have an XP-look in your favourite theme. * Cave Table: by clicking on the column captions, you can now sort on nearly every column of the table (now on 19 different columns, before only 10 columns could be sorted!). Also you can now sort every column ascending or descending, just by clicking one more time on the caption. Small triangular "sortmarkers" indicate the sort direction. Also, all index expressions are now on "uppercase" which results in better sorting. * Cave Table: will now remember on what column it was sorted. When starting SpeleoBase it will be ordered exactly the same way it was when you closed SpeleoBase. Before you had to indicate your default sort order in the Confi- guration window; this is no longer necessary, nor possible. * Cave Table Tooltips: when passing with the mouse pointer over a cave name or number, a balloon (tooltip) will pop up showing some significant information about the cave. * The field for the "Synonym Name" has been doubled in length (before 50, now 100 long) * 5 New fields in the cave database: - CACONFID: allows you to distinguish "confidential" caves from the rest - CAREMARK: additional remarks - CAMETINF2: information about the cave metrics ("Depth") - CAINTREST: information or keywords about the cave's interest - CAPROTECT: to enter the protection measures that are taken or needed * The selectionbox with "statusses" will now show also icons for more clarity. * A fast search engine has been built in to Speleobase. You can now search (and filter) on one or several words (or even a part of a word) and these words can be anywhere in the Speleobase text fields, even in the "memo" fields with the cave description, localisation, bibliography, and so on. On top of this, you can still (just as before) filter the cave table on different criteria. This makes SpeleoBase very powerful; for example: you can filter on all caves situated in Spain, that are still in exploration, that are situated in the Cantabria area, and on top of that the search engine will allow you to pick just those caves out where the words "pollution" and "river" have been used anywhere in the cave record * From now on, you have access to the "Maintenance" menu without having to close the cave table first. This comes in handy, when you are entering new caves and you quickly need to create or change a code. * Print-outs: - New list showing cave metrics information. - Many modifications in the normal liste of caves * During long running operations (e.g. re-indexing) an animated dialog window pops up. * Exporting caves to WGS84 format: better error-handling and error logging. * Logging window (when exporting or importing caves) now has the possibility to show only the errors which is handy when you have converted many caves. Bug fixes: - Improved Reindex routines should avoid the sporadic crashes that could happen while re-indexing many caves (thousands). - Bug removed that prevented emailing a cave in RTF format ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V2.3.2 - 1/1/2003 ========================= * 3 new fields in the main cave file : Inventory number, Synonym name, Massif ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V2.3.1 - 30/12/2002 ========================= * In the Tools menu a new function "Convert link" was made which allows you to do search/replace operation on all of your links. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V2.3 - 29/12/2002 ========================= * Translation in English of the complete program, error messages, print output and Help docs. * Image link Preview: you have now the possibility (again) to zoom the image in/out. * Printout of a detail cave: possibility to have the images printed as thumbnails, or as links only. * Detail Cave: added a"print" button so you can print the cave from here. * Image Links : you can now choose to show "thumbnails images" . * All links (images/docs/survey) are now automatically created as "relative links", if the file is located in a subfolder of SpeleoBase. Example: this link : " c:\Program Files\SpeleoBase\Images\Test.JPG" becomes: " ..\Images\Test.JPG ". This will make exchanging caves with other users easier. * Detail cave: added a field " Author " where you can enter the name of the author of the cave record. * Detail cave: added a field " Modification date " which is updated every time you save a cave. It will allow you to group (filter) together caves that have been changed after or on a certain date. * Detail cave: the field " Creation date " can now be changed by the user * Cave Table : you can now activate an additional filter on nearly any character or date field (e.g. NAME, PLACE, CREATION DATE etc..) * A lot of esthaetical modifications and bugfixes. On pouvait uniquement sélectionner.
